Mike Rohan – Co-founder & CEO
With the founding of Rivet Software, Mike adds yet another chapter to a career of helping organizations develop and deploy elegant, powerful
and usable financial and business reporting solutions. He was the founder and original developer of FRx Software, which has become the financial
reporting mainstay for most mid-sized corporations in the US. FRx was purchased by the Microsoft Business Solutions Division in 2000 and
continues as a successful company. Mike went from his career beginnings as a CPA to become a manager for the Price Waterhouse & Co. consulting
group in San Francisco where he assisted corporations with understanding and implementing automated financial and accounting systems.
Emily Huang – Co-founder & VP, Business Technology
Emily Huang is the co-founder and VP of Business Technology, which encompasses all of Rivet’s Business Intelligence solutions and information delivery strategies. Emily’s disciplined approach and energetic leadership have been great assets in setting the development team’s strategic and tactical direction. She has played an integral role in helping Rivet excel as an industry leader in XBRL software solutions, and gaining key partnerships with other leading companies.
For the past 20 years, Emily’s unique ability to design systems that are powerful, efficient and user-friendly has been very beneficial to Rivet’s development team. Prior to co-founding Rivet, Emily served as Director of Development and Director of Business Intelligence at Esurance. She has also worked as the Principal Architect at FRx Software for OLAP, XML-based reporting and led development efforts in building integrations to various ERP's.
Emily is the inventor of 2 issued US Software patents (XBRL enabler for business documents #7,415,482 & Analysis of financial and business information based on interactive data, # 7,822,769) and several other pending patents related to XBRL creation and consumption. In August 2011, Emily was awarded “Annual Outstanding Women in Business” in the high-tech industry by the Denver Business Journal for her contribution in making Rivet a dynamic and high-growth software company.
Huang holds advanced degrees in Computer and Information Science, and Computer Assisted instruction from the Cleveland State University and State University of New York at Buffalo.
Philip Winterburn – CIO
Philip Winterburn is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Rivet Software where he leads the software engineering departments to include development, technical operations, and quality assurance. Throughout his career Winterburn has specialized in creating, leading, and maturing technology organizations. He is a master at bringing a balanced approach of rigor, agility, and technical advancement, while focusing on the delivery of business value. With his leadership, Rivet engineers have been able to constantly develop new products that lead the industry, continue to earn patents, and shape the XBRL marketplace.
Prior to joining Rivet, Winterburn worked in a variety of industries where he gained extensive experience in application development, technology architecture, and operations management. He has held IT Executive positions at several companies including Ernst & Young, EDS, AT&T and Great West Healthcare.
Winterburn holds an advanced degree in Pure Mathematics from the London Metropolitan University.
Barclay Friesen – COO
Barclay Friesen is responsible for the development, design, operation, and improvement of all systems related to the growth of Rivet’s Pro-Services, Compliance (XBRL) Services, Sales, Marketing, and Partnership departments. He has led Rivet through explosive growth, from the 5th to 1st largest XBRL software services vendor and staff growth of over 1140%. Leveraging his 15 years of experience in business services, Barclay’s vision and go-to-market sales strategy recently resulted in a 100% increase in client acquisitions. As the former VP of Sales and Marketing at Rivet, Barclay lead day-to-day operations of the sales department, while maintaining focus on the company’s strategic goals. He was in charge of developing and deploying all sales activities, departments, and personnel involved in sales and marketing for the Company.
Throughout his career, Barclay has combined a cross-functional background in sales and operational management to implement successful strategies in small and medium-sized companies. He has developed and successfully implemented sales strategies in domestic and international industries such as telecommunications and manufacturing, demonstrating successes in revenue growth, sales team management, and strategic business development. As former VP of Sales and co-founder of ServiceSelect, Barclay led operations, sales, and marketing teams which resulted in securing eight consecutive quarters of growth in the face of a declining overall market. Barclay’s market sales strategy resulted in a 100% increase in client acquisitions and a 500% increase in revenue growth for the company in Q4 2009.
Barclay studied Business Administration at North Carolina State University.
Barry Capoot, CPA – CFO
Barry Capoot joins the Rivet team with more than 15 years of experience in finance, management, accounting, and leadership. As the CFO, he oversees monthly and annual financial reporting, management reporting, human resources, and corporate governance. His executive leadership and experience handling multi-million dollar budgets has aided in developing and implementing strategies that have helped support profitable business growth.
Most recently, he was CFO of Diamond Wire Material Technologies, a manufacturing company focused in the solar energy industry. He has also served as a Managing Director at Green Manning & Bunch (a middle market investment bank) where he spent nearly ten years executing merger & acquisition and financing transactions, a member of the Structured Finance Group at Bank of America where he provided capital to middle market companies in leveraged buyout transactions, and a CPA in audit practice at Ernst & Young.
Barry graduated from Northwestern University with an undergraduate degree in Economics, DePaul University with a master’s degree in Accounting, and The University of Chicago with an MBA with an emphasis in Finance and Accounting.
Kevin Berens – CPO
Kevin Berens is the Chief Product Officer (CPO) of Rivet Software with over 20 years of past experience in business intelligence and creating software. He has the ability to effectively manage and grow teams, adapt processes and enhance software attributes through periods of explosive growth. At Rivet, Berens is responsible for all product decisions including the cost/benefit analysis for each feature. Kevin has helped Rivet become more efficient in ensuring both customer satisfaction and ensuring that the highest industry standards are met.
Over the last 15 years, he has worked to develop and sell products that help users solve reporting challenges (both for mid-market and enterprise level customers). With his innovative track record, Berens has built three startup reporting and analytic products that each evolved from zero customers to leaders in their industry in less than 2 years. Kevin is a founder of FRx Software Corporation - a Microsoft subsidiary (formerly FRx Software), spending 10 years with varying roles - ranging from Product Specialist to VP of Development. After FRx was purchased by the Microsoft Business Solutions Division in 2000, he continued on with Microsoft where he was a Lead Program Manager on the PerformancePoint Server team which delivered enterprise level Business Intelligence solutions to the Enterprise Performance Management market.
Prior to his software development career, Kevin spent five years at American Express, First Data Corp where he was a data analyst. He received his Bachelors from Colorado State University in accounting and received his Masters in Computer Information Science from University College (Denver University).
Raul Varela, CFA – VP, Strategic Initiatives
In November 2009, Raul Varela joined Rivet Software as Vice President of Strategic Initiatives. He manages the development and direction of Rivet’s strategy for becoming the industry leader in global financial communications. As a former Investment Analyst, he is an expert at identifying market trends and predicting the impacts of new technology on business users. His experience in strategic partnership development and corporate strategy combined with his gift for project management, allows him to provide Rivet with key financial information knowledge along with strong leadership.
Before joining Rivet, Raul served in various roles at software companies including J.D. Edwards, Anderson Consulting (Accenture). Most recently he managed the Corporate Treasury group at OppenheimerFunds, Inc. He’s a Chartered Financial Analyst Charterholder, and a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Colorado. Raul serves on the XBRL US Communications Steering Committee and has been featured in several publications including Compliance Week Magazine, Money Management Executive, and Forbes.
Raul holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and an MBA from the University of Colorado.
Craig Rutherford, CPA – VP, Finance & Administration
Craig Rutherford joined Rivet Software in November of 2009. As Rivet’s VP of Finance and Administration he is responsible for managing the
company's financial and administrative operations. His experience in developing finance operations for technology start-ups as well as managing
the financial, planning and analysis team for a $1B division of Microsoft Corporation will help to prepare the company for rapid growth and enable
Rivet to realize its potential as an industry leader in XBRL and financial reporting. Prior to joining Rivet, Mr. Rutherford held various
finance positions with other software companies from Controller to VP of Finance and CFO. He holds B.S. degrees in Accounting and Business
Administration from Illinois State University and an M.S. in Management from the University of Colorado-Denver. He is a licensed CPA in the state of
Colorado.
Christy Rohrs, CPA – Director of Education Services
Christy is leading the educational and professional services for Rivet's customers participating in the SEC Voluntary Filing Program, and
oversees the creation of XBRL financial statements for submission to the SEC. Christy is directing the Rivet Software contract with the SEC
for developing and implementing the XBRL Interactive Viewer for corporate finance as well as the Mutual Fund Viewer; both are accessible from the
SEC web site. Christy is an active CPA. Her accomplishments include 5 years as an Auditor for a Public Accounting Firm, then multiple roles in
accounting in private industry, followed by 9 years of increasing responsibility and leadership at FRx Software, now a division of Microsoft
Business Solutions, in their accounting and client services area. Christy holds a BS in Accounting with emphasis in
Finance from Metropolitan State College.
