Frequently Asked Questions
When you first open an instance document in Dragon View you will have the Report Preview and Markup Review tabs showing automatically. If you would like to see the Data Grid, navigate to the View Menu and select, "Show Data Grid" The Data Grid will then open up as illustrated below.
When you are in the "Markup Review" tab you will have the option to select the columns, "Percentage of All SEC Filers" and "Percentage of All Filers for Selected SIC":
When you first open up Dragon View, navigate up to the File Menu and select, "Open / US SEC Recent Filing" as illustrated below Then a box will appear with the most recent 100 filings to the SEC as pictured below. You can navigate to the filing you want by using the scroll bar on the right hand side of the screen, highlight the row and then click, "Open Selected Filing" to have the instance document load in Dragon View. To open the corresponding extended taxonomy, navigate back to the file menu, and then select, "Open / US SEC Recent Taxonomy" and select the taxonomy and click open:
Both the Presentation and the Standard Edition of Dragon View allows you to open up instance documents and taxonomy filings for review and to access recent SEC Filings and taxonomies. The Presentation Edition contains two additional features (as illustrated below): ability to export to HTML and ability to export to Excel. Export to Excel: From the File Menu, select, "Export to Excel": A box will appear to allow you to select the statements or disclosures you wish to export which creates separate worksheets within the Excel Workbook. If you are in the Markup Review tab, the export feature will export all the selected columns, if you are in the Report Preview tab, the export feature will export the presentation view. Export to HTML: From the File Menu, select, "Export to HTML": You will be prompted to direct Dragon View to the folder where you wish to save the HTML files. Each individual statement, disclosure contained in the filing will have its own HTML file. Additionally, there will be an "index" html file which will contain links for the XBRL filing. Selecting the "index" html file will populate the internet window you see below. This is a great tool to post your XBRL files to your company's website so that an investor can click on each statement or disclosure contained in the filing, on the left-hand side and see it populate on the right-hand side of the screen. Now by clicking on the Document Information link, that part of the filing is populated on the right-hand side of the screen.
You may get an error when using the "Export to Excel" feature if Dragon View has not been run by an administrator after installation was completed. To resolve this issue, please have a user with administrator access to the computer log in and run Dragon View. Once they have done this, users with limited permissions should be able to use the "Export to Excel" feature without issues.
